About
Geese is an American rock band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2016. They’ve become known for their lively shows and creative writing. Indie rock, post-punk, and experimental music blend together in their unique sound. The band includes Cameron Winter on vocals, keyboards, and guitar. Plus, there’s Emily Green on guitar, Dominic DiGesu on bass, and Max Bassin on drums.
Together, they create a dynamic sound that’s caught music fans and critics attention. During live shows, Geese have keyboardist Sam Revaz join them, adding depth and texture. With their creative songs and evolving sound, they remain one of the most exciting modern rock bands out there.
History Formation and early years
Formed in 2016, the band started when the members were in Brooklyn Friends School and Little Red School House in New York City. They would practice in the basement of one member’s place in Fort Greene during high school. Their first song together? It was Tame Impala’s “Mind Mischief.” The guitarist, Emily Green, got the band’s name from her own nickname, “Goose.” Independently, they put out their debut EP in 2018, then an album called “A Beautiful Memory” in the same year. In 2019, they came out with another EP named “Bottomless Pink Lagoon.” Interestingly, all these releases aren’t on streaming platforms anymore.
2021–2023: Projector
On October 29, 2021, the band released their second album and label debut, Projector, with Partisan Records. They recorded it in Bassin’s basement from late 2019 to early 2020, and Dan Carey mixed it. The debut single, “Disco,” premiered on Apple Music 1 on June 22, 2021. During the premiere, Winter told host Matt Wilkinson that it was the first time they had their live setup working. “We bought more mics to capture everything live,” Winter said, “so we could play together rather than layering vocals and instruments.” This setup led to a special moment where everyone was truly in sync, making it amazing and unforgettable.
2023–2024: 3D Country and Hudson’s departure
On June 23, 2023, the band released their third studio album, “3D Country,” produced by James Ford. They dropped four singles beforehand: “Cowboy Nudes,” “3D Country,” “Mysterious Love,” and “I See Myself.” Then, on October 13, 2023, the band put out the “4D Country” EP, which had songs from those sessions. In some surprising news, on December 22, 2023, the band announced that guitarist Foster Hudson was stepping away to focus on school stuff. Still, they’d carry on as a quartet.
Musical style and influences
Cameron Winter’s vocals in Projector are pretty impressive. Jon Dolan from Rolling Stone says Winter can hit a Thom Yorke-like falsetto, then do a Julian Casablancas or Ian McCulloch impression. He might even channel Mark E. Smith or Alex Turner at other times. Sometimes all those styles mash up in just three minutes! It really works – great for anyone with a short attention span and still fantastic for deep listeners too. In 3D Country, Winter is on fire again. Ian Blau from Rolling Stone thinks so too. Whether he’s hitting those high notes in “I See Myself” or blending yelps, spoken word, and nasally chants in “Mysterious Love,” it’s outstanding. Plus, his take on the Alex Turner-style crooning in the title song? Just perfect for each set of lyrics and vibe.
